Grant Tandy
Growing up under Central Oregon’s night skies sparked a lifelong passion for astronomy and a commitment to sharing it with others. Since 2014, I’ve worked in public science outreach, first as an Astronomical Interpreter at the Oregon Observatory, and now as a freelance astronomer and photographer, leading programs at the Worthy Observatory where I connect with over 15,000 people each year through live programs, telescope viewing, and educational events.
I’m a NASA-JPL Solar System Ambassador and a core member of DarkSky Oregon, passionate about topics like planetary science, physics, light pollution, space exploration, and history. As a freelancer, I also conduct offsite outreach across Oregon, partnering with regional tourism groups, outdoor outfitters, and schools to promote sustainable tourism and public education. Photography plays a big role in my work, helping me capture and share eclipses, comets, and star-filled landscapes. My approach blends curiosity, humor, and hands-on learning to make complex concepts feel personal, so people not only see what’s out there, but better understand their place within it.
